MIDI is a flexible and low bandwidth technology for sonifying the web, games, ringtones, music composition, live performance,synthesizer programming and other multimedia. The tradeoff for small file size is varying playback on different
sound cards. Sound cards have a variety of synthesis methods: two common ones
are wavetable (sample based) and FM (frequency modulation) synthesis. Wavetable

Turn Up the volume - this MIDI file plays no music but instead maxes the volume on your MIDI playback device (to geek out, specifically, Volume Controller 7 value 127 messages to all 16 MIDI channels). Sometimes this may be why you can not hear MIDI well or at very reduced levels.
